82% Muscat Gordo, 18% Black Muscat. Pale rose in color. Bright aromas of cotton candy, black currant with musk, Turkish delight, mandarin peel, passion fruity, guava, sweet strawberry, sweet cherry, watermelon, and papaya. Continuing to the palate, flavors of black cherry, peach, jasmine, and vanilla bean. It’s quite complex for a Moscato style wine with creamy effervescence. This is off dry crisp acidity and the medium plus flavor intensity that has a delightful medium finish.

Food Pairing: Fresh summer berries and double cream. Crêpes with lemon syrup and orange zest. Blue cheese with pear, waffle with fresh berries and cream, honey glazed salmon or teriyaki glazed shrimp, sweet and spicy Port tacos topped with mango and guava, Thai spring rolls, Szechuan chicken skewers, brie, young gouda, fresh ricotta.

Muscat Gordo- AKA Muscat of Alexandra (Spain and Portugal), Muscatel Blanco, Lexia (also in Australia). It is widely planted in Roussillon, France and produce into a Vin de Natural in regions of Muscat de Rivesaltes, Banyuls, and Maury where it is blended with Grenache. In the 1970s and 1980s this grape was widely planted in the Victoria region and is considered a basic table wine. For Spain it is made into sherry. For Portugal it is made into white ports. It is said to have originated in Alexandria, Egypt, thus the name. Characteristically it is a workhorse varietal that is less fussy than the Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains.

Black Muscat – AKA Muscat of Hamburg grows in France, UK, parts of Eastern Europe, Greece, US west coast (CA OR, & WA), Australia, and South Africa. Parents are Schiava Grossa (Trento Alto Adige, Italy) and Muscat of Alexandria, first cultivated in 1850 from Bedfordshire UK. Particularly small berries, grapy aromas. Cultivated for both snacking and wine production as a red, rose, still and sparkling.
