City Vino will be hosting Chris Halferty for the first time in a City Vino Zoom tasting event. Chris Halferty has been The Robbin’s Cellars representative to City Vino for the past three years and has been with The Robbin's Cellars for the past five plus years. He is well versed with their catalog and enjoys many wines which he represents. He has provided many of the City Vino Wine Cru wines, including March's Nero Mascalese. This month Chris is sharing three of his favorite wines that are perfect as we move into Spring. These wines are great with food or standing on their own.
Lubanzi Rose Bubbles Swartland South Africa NV 100% Cinsault. Aromas of dusty strawberry, cherry, and citrus blossom. Lively acidity, with light airy effervescence. Dry, crisp, refreshing palate with flavors of summer strawberry, cherry, raspberry, lemon-lime citrus, peppercorn, and pomegranate, balanced with a touch of minerality.
Bonny Doon Vineyard Picpoul Beeswax Vineyard Arroyo Seco California 2020  100% Picpoul. Picpoul, or “lip-stinger”, is known for its tingling acidity, coupled with its singular savoriness. It creates a dramatic sensation on the palate. Big wildflowers and beeswax aromas backed by lemon and salty zing. On the palate, the sensation of saltiness flows into peach, wildflowers, lemon-lime citrus, ripe pineapple. The acidity lends to the wines structure, which is light bodied and easy to drink.
Thistledown Wines Gorgeous Grenache Old Vine No. 1 Small Batch, South Australia, Australia 2020 100% Grenache. A bouquet of Violets greet your noes followed by a flurry of red fruits. On the palate, a mix of red and blue fruits; strawberry, red cherry, black plum, blackberry, white pepper. Mid palate, a soft note of vanilla, and cedar, with a touch of earth and spices.  Tannins are coarse, and when coupled with big fruit, brings a medium plus body which is balanced with acidity. A pleasant finish.
