This time of year, beautiful images circulate of bare wooded grapevines against the backdrop of snow-covered ground. Snow-covered ground isn’t an issue for the vines this time of year. The snow acts as a blanket and can protect the vine’s root systems from sub-freezing temperatures.
With the summer heat upon us, we are all looking for wines that are perfect for the warmer temperatures because they are refreshing, quench one’s thirst, are quaffable, and simply taste good. Porch, picnic, and backyard wines are those wines that fit that bill, and are the focus of our tasting this weekend at City Vino.

Viognier is a grape that is as hard to grow as the name is to pronounce. The variety is early ripening, leaving it susceptible to late spring frosts that can burn the delicate buds that would ultimately form all the green growth including the grapes themselves.
