Global Wines, Local Cheers: Artisans & Vines Meets City Vino

Artisans & Vines was born in 2009 out of a passion for wine and a deep respect for tradition and terroir. Founded by two pioneers of The Country Vintner, the company was established as an import marketing enterprise with a clear mission: to bring exceptional European wines to the American market. In its early years, the company focused on wines from France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Portugal, and Italy—regions steeped in winemaking heritage. These countries offered not only centuries-old traditions but also distinctive wines that showcased the unique characteristics of their terroirs.

The company’s vision extended beyond just importing wine; it sought to connect producers and consumers in a meaningful way. By partnering with family-owned wineries and artisanal producers, Artisans & Vines curated a portfolio that reflected authenticity and a commitment to quality. Early successes included partnerships with revered Old-World producers like Champagne house Poilvert-Jacques, whose sparkling wines exemplify the elegance and craftsmanship of the region.

While the roots of Artisans & Vines were firmly anchored in the Old World, the company’s gaze soon extended to the New World. Over time, the portfolio expanded to include wines from emerging and established wine regions outside Europe. From the lush vineyards of New Zealand, to the sun-soaked terroirs of South Africa, and from the rolling hills of California, to the dynamic landscapes of Oregon and New York, Artisans & Vines embraced the diversity of global winemaking. Notable among its New-World offerings is Zonte’s Footstep, a standout producer from McLaren Vale, Australia, known for its innovative and expressive wines.

This weekend, City Vino is thrilled to showcase some of the incredible wines from the Artisans & Vines portfolio, offering an opportunity to experience the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of these selections firsthand. At our regular tasting bar, you'll be able to sample a diverse lineup of wines that highlight both Old-World elegance and New-World innovation. Additionally, Saturday night promises to be a showstopper, as we host a Comedy Night event featuring the most beloved wine representative in the business, Jon Yeager.

Jon Yeager is a force to be reckoned with in the wine world. Known for his infectious energy, deep wine knowledge, and unparalleled ability to connect with audiences, Jon has earned a reputation as a true wine ambassador. His engaging storytelling, paired with his knack for selecting wines that surprise and delight, makes every encounter with him memorable. On Saturday night, Jon will take the stage to guide attendees through a tasting experience that pairs perfectly with laughter. With his charm and expertise, Jon will breathe life into the stories behind the wines, offering a rare opportunity to learn, laugh, and sip in equal measure.

The expansion demonstrated Artisans & Vines’ forward-thinking approach and commitment to providing a well-rounded selection. The company sought not only wines of exceptional quality but also those that told a story—whether through sustainable farming practices, unique varietals, or groundbreaking winemaking techniques.

In 2016, the leadership of Artisans & Vines took a significant turn with the arrival of Eric Platt as managing partner. Platt, a seasoned professional with more than 25 years in the fine wine industry, brought a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to the company. His career journey had taken him through every facet of the wine business: from retail to wholesale, and from importing to managing national sales for renowned portfolios.

Platt’s career began in 1987 with the Milton Kronheim Company, where he worked as a sales representative in the Washington, DC, market. His skills and passion for wine soon propelled him to national roles, including Midwest and Eastern Regional Manager for Bobby Kacher Selections, where he played a pivotal role in developing the U.S. market for exclusive French wines. Later, as Vice President/Director of Sales for Robert Whale Selections, he drove substantial growth in the national sales of Australian and New Zealand wines.

Eric’s experience extended into the wholesale side of the business as well, including directing the fine wine and spirits division of Washington Wholesale Liquor Company/Pinnacle House. This diverse background gave him a comprehensive understanding of the wine industry and equipped him to navigate the complexities of import and distribution.

Under Platt’s leadership, Artisans & Vines embarked on a new phase of growth. His primary goal was to expand the company’s distribution footprint and refine its portfolio. By forging stronger partnerships with producers, distributors, and retailers, Platt positioned Artisans & Vines as a trusted partner in the U.S. wine market.

At its core, Artisans & Vines remains dedicated to building meaningful relationships with its stakeholders. The company’s success is deeply rooted in collaboration—with producers who share its passion for terroir-driven wines, with distributors who help bring these wines to market, and with restaurants and retailers who connect them to consumers. This network of partnerships ensures that the wines in the Artisans & Vines portfolio are not only celebrated, but also accessible to wine enthusiasts across the United States.

With a portfolio built by professionals who are deeply passionate about wine, Artisans & Vines continues to grow and innovate. The company’s commitment to quality, authenticity, and sustainability resonates with a modern audience seeking wines with a story and a sense of place. Whether it’s an elegant Champagne from France, a bold Syrah from Australia, or a vibrant Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, every wine in the portfolio reflects the company’s ethos of excellence.

As Artisans & Vines looks to the future, its focus remains clear: to be the best partner to producers, distributors, and consumers, and to celebrate the art and science of winemaking from vineyards around the globe. With leaders like Eric Platt at the helm and a portfolio that spans both the Old and New Worlds, the company is poised to continue its journey of bringing exceptional wines to the American market.

Don’t miss your chance to experience these extraordinary wines this weekend at City Vino—both at the tasting bar and during Comedy Night with Jon Yeager. It’s a celebration of wine, laughter, and community that you won’t want to miss!
