Wines for Mother's Day

Wines for Mother's Day

Mother's Day is this Sunday. Whether you are looking for a gift or trying to find the right compliment to a Mother's Day meal, here are our suggestions to show the mothers in your life that you love them.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a sparkling wine from northern Italy. Unlike Champagne, Prosecco is not aged in bottles containing the "lees" so you get more fruit flavors from the grape and less of the yeasty characteristics.  Prosecco mixed with fruit juice, called a Bellini, is perfect for Mother's Day brunch.

Try the Babbo Prosecco.  This is a classically fresh juicy Prosecco that pairs well with quiche, omelettes and Eggs Benedict.

Rose

Roses come in many different styles - light, dark, sweet, dry, single varietal, blends, etc.  The variety can be overwhelming at times.  We recommend the Capçanes Montsant Mas Donís Rosat. This Syrah-Grenache blend from Spain provides a perfect combination of color, aroma and taste.  The acidity and body will work well as part of an afternoon cookout.  The label itself makes this a beautiful gift.

Sparkling Rose

The Leo Hillinger Secco Pinot Noir Rose is the perfect combination of Prosecco and Rose.  Made from 100% Pinot Noir and fermented in the Prosecco method, this off-dry wine provides just a touch of sweetness along with flavors of strawberry and wild berry.  Drink as an aperitif or along with a selection of cheeses and charcuterie.

From the sales of this wine, Hillinger winery donates 10,000 euro each year to support breast cancer research.

We will be offering samples of the Secco this Saturday from noon-4pm.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay can be a very polarizing wine, but it is also one of the most flexible and diverse wines you will find. On one end of the spectrum, you will find full bodied wines that remind you of movie theater popcorn or the inside of a tree.  On the other side of the spectrum are lean, crisp, aromatic wines that will remind you of a tropical fruit plate at a Caribbean resort.

The Fossil Point Chardonnay bridges both of these styles.  Aged in neutral oak, this wine offers plenty of body and tropical fruit flavors at the same time. Only 30% of the wine has undergone malolactic fermentation so the acidity is still relatively high but it has a smooth mouthfeel and a faint aroma of butter.  This wine would pair well with an elegant poultry, fish, or pork dish.

Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is the perfect red wine as we move from Spring to Summer.  It has the capacity for robust flavor without the heavy weight of some other red wines.  Perfect for a Mother's Day dinner of grilled salmon or lamb.

The Domaine de Mus Pinot Noir is a full flavored and finely balanced Pinot Noir with cherry, mushroom and violet notes.

We will be offering samples of the Domaine de Mus this Saturday from noon-4pm.
