Hit the Highway with Highway 12

Hit the Highway with Highway 12

Join City Vino on Thursday night, June 25th, at 7 PM, as we virtually hit the highway with a tasting of wines from Highway 12 Winery. Jon Yeager, of International Cellars, and Paul Giusto and Jeff Lubin, of Highway 12, will be steering us on this trip along the highway. The tasting will feature the Highway 12 Carneros Highway Chardonnay 2018 , Highway 12 Sauvignon Blanc 2019, and the Highway 12 Pinot Noir 2017.

The bundle price for these three wines is $49.99 and is available here: Highway 12 Virtual Tasting Wine Bundle. We also have a Cheese and Cracker Bundle Package option to pair with your wine, which includes Carr’s Table Water Crackers 2.2oz and a choice of two of three of the following cheeses: Roth Original Havarti Deli Cuts (6 oz), Saputo Cranberry Cinnamon Goat Cheese Mini Logs (4 oz) or Roth Organic Van Gogh Gouda Deli Cut (6 oz).

One of the wines that Jon will lead us through will be the Highway 12 Carneros Highway Chardonnay 2018, from California. The wine is 100 percent Chardonnay, with aromas and flavors of apple, citrus, and tropical fruit, along with some toasted oak and a buttery creamy finish. For pairing, try this with Cheddar, Gouda, or Manchego cheeses. It would also pair beautifully with fish, chicken, or pork—especially with a cream or butter sauce, as the fat in those types of sauces harmoniously balances the oak and buttery notes in the wine.

Another wine included in our virtual tasting is the Highway 12 Sauvignon Blanc 2019. The wine is 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc, sourced from Sonoma County. The wine was mostly fermented in stainless steel tanks, but a portion was barrel-fermented in neutral barrels (used barrels that won’t impart oaky flavors on the wine), and then blended together. Blending wine together that was fermented differently adds to the complexity of the wine. The wine is bright, with aromas and flavors of fresh citrus, green apple, peach, and a hint of grassiness. If you are a lover of New Zealand or California Sauvignon Blanc, you should enjoy this wine. Pairings for this wine include raw oysters, steamed clams, or a seat on a covered porch.

The final wine is the Highway 12 Pinot Noir 2017, from California. Sourced from vineyards ranging from Sonoma County into the Delta region, and into Lodi. This wine, made from 100 percent Pinot Noir, shows bright red fruit aromas, and flavors of bing cherry, cranberry, and strawberries. There are also hints of earth, cedar, and green tea leaves. The wine has light tannins, so feel free to give it a light chill. This wine will shine when paired with duck breast, with a fig reduction, and wild mushroom risotto, with dried cherries. For simpler pairings, try the wine with a cheese that contains truffles or other mushrooms, or one that contains cranberries.
