Winter Wine Wonderland

Winter Wine Wonderland

For this year’s holiday shopping post, we took liberties with festive holiday songs and made them wine-errific for your enjoyment.

All I Want for Christmas is You and a City Vino Wine Bundle for the December Virtual Wine Tasting on December 10th, at 7:00 pm. Once again, we’ll be joined by Jon Yeager, of International Cellars, featuring three great gift wines. The sparkling gift wine is the Bernard Lonclas Selection Brut Champagne France NV, which is 50 percent Pinot Meunier, 30 percent Chardonnay, and 20 percent Pinot Noir. The second wine is the Mouton Noir Horseshoes and Hand Grenades Red Blend Washington, which is a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The final wine in the bundle is the 2017 Casa Rojo Maquinon Priorat Spain, which is 100 percent Garnacha/Grenache. The wines, when bought as a trio, cost $69.99, and provide a near-$30 savings, over buying them individually.

Christmas is said to be The Most Wonderful Day of the Year, or at least according to Rudolph and friends. At City Vino, we can help stretch that out so that you have The Most Winederful Days of the Year on a more frequent basis, by joining or gifting our City Vino Wine Cru. Each month you or your gift recipient will receive one or two bottles of wines, not usually widely available, for $52.37 per month (tax inclusive).

The classic holiday song is hereby transformed into White Wine Christmas, as you picture snow silently falling to earth, a roaring fire in the fireplace, and a glass of white wine in your hand. Our wine choices include the 2018 Le Legende De Saint-Martin Sancerre, which is a lovely wine for Sauvignon Blanc lovers; 2019 Remhoogte Honeybunch Chenin Blanc Simonsberg-Stellenbosch South Africa, which shows lovely fruit and honey notes; and 2018 Hartford Court Russian River Valley Chardonnay Sonoma California, which is a very classic wine made from 100 percent Chardonnay featuring some tropical fruits along with a buttery finish.

Yes, Virginia Wine, there is a Santa Claus, and we have a number of wines from around the state to enjoy for sharing. There is sparkling Viognier 2017 Hamlet Vineyard VaVino Sparking Viognier Virginia, a rosé made from Pinot Noir 2019 Gabriele Rausse Vin Gris de Pinot Noir Rose Monticello Virginia, red made from Nebbiolo the grape famous for Barolo and Barbaresco wines in Italy, 2016 Barboursville Vineyards Nebbiolo Reserve Virginia, and a Bordeaux Blend 2017 Early Mountain Eluvium Red Blend Virginia.

We Three Kings of Virginia Wine Are featured wines made from Petit Verdot, which is a blending grape in Bordeaux that makes beautiful varietal wines in Virginia. Our three kings are the 2016 Michael Shaps Petit Verdot Monticello Virginia 2016, the 2017 Mountain Run Winery Petit Verdot Virginia, and the 2018 Jefferson Vineyards Petit Verdot Virginia.

Rudolph the Red Wine Nosed Reindeer is a lover of reds. In addition to the reds listed above, Rudolph is a fan of Malbec, like this 2016 Chateau Famaey Cuvee X Malbec Cahors, France, Syrah based blends like 2015 Gerard Bertrand Chateau La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Rouge Languedoc France, and Pinot Noirs like h2017 Maison Albert Bichot Secret de Famille Pinot Noir Bourgogne France, and 2017 Siduri Wines Russian River Valley Pinot Noir.

A holiday classic song each year is Silver Sparkling Wine Bells. Our sparkling wines include the Bauget Jouette Carte Blanche Champagne France NV, the R.H. Coutier Champagne Brut Grand Cru Tradition NV, and Virginia’s own Thibaut-Janisson Xtra Brut Virginia NV. Make your holidays sparkle!

Frosty the Ice Wine Snowman is enjoying a glass of 2018 Kiona Vineyards Chenin Blanc Ice Wine Estate Grown Red Mountain Washington, which has aromas of honey, elderflower, and apricot, along with flavors of baked orchard fruit. How do you think Frosty keeps his rosy cheeks?
